What can I do?
- St Abb’s Bay’s crystal clear water and diverse marine life make this 8km stretch of the Berwickshire and North Northumberland Coast European Marine Site a great place for snorkelling and scuba diving. St Abb’s Head offers panoramic views, a small Nature Centre and a great view of the breeding seabird colony at the National Trust for Scotland’s St Abb’s Nature Reserve.
- All visitors to the St Abb’s and Eyemouth Voluntary Marine Reserve can explore the shore independently or on a ranger-led seashore safari. School groups can also take part in a range of activities including Shore Thing surveys, where learners collect data on climate change and invasive species. The reserve offers a number of teaching packs and learning activities for download from their website.
- From April to September, the Mobile Marine Experience trailer can be found at St Abb’s Harbour or other local sites.
- St Abb’s harbour though small is very pretty and worth taking time to explore. View the evocative sculpture commemorating the fishing disaster on the path just above the harbour car park.
What do I need to know?
- All visitors are asked to abide by the Voluntary Marine Reserve (VMR) code of conduct
- You can help the VMR by reporting your marine life sightings.
- Ranger-led activities are only available between April and September.
