A seat for all seasons

Visitors to Northumberland Wildlife Trust’s Annstead Dunes reserve, located between Beadnell and Seahouses on the Northumberland Coast Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, now have two new specially designed oak seats to sit down and enjoy the views from.

The first two seats have been installed on the top of the dunes
over-looking the beach north of Annstead. The third seat is currently being made and will be installed at a location north of the harbour.

The seats, which were made by Haltwhistle craftsman Tom Smith, have been bolted into the ground to prevent them being stolen.

Funding for the seats was made available from the Market Town Welcome Project and the commissioning of the work was managed by The Seahouses Development Trust. In addition to the seats, the Market Town Welcome Project will also fund a new town map will be placed at the entrance to the main car park in Seahouses and a new street lighting scheme around the War Memorial in the town.

Geoff Dobbins, Estates Officer with Northumberland Wildlife Trust said: “What perfect timing for the installation of the new seats – the sun is shining and the dunes are coming to life again after the harsh winter. This site is well frequented by narrow-bordered five spot burnet and cinnabar moths and there is also a colony of common lizards on site not to mention the spectacular views from the new seats.”
