Our Coast, Our Sea - Do Something Amazing on World Ocean Day
27 May 2010
8th June is the day to celebrate the wonders of our oceans.
Whether your interest is to protect marine wildlife, reduce the impact of overfishing or to clean up beach litter, World Ocean Day is the time to shout about what you love about our oceans and the changes that you want to see.
MCS is celebrating World Ocean Day by creating its very own blue planet and having a Big Blue Day!
How can you get involved? All you need is a group of people and some blue things – easy!
You could have a blue themed dress down day in the office or at school, bake some blueberry muffins or even invite your friends over for a sustainable seafood supper to raise a few pounds to protect our oceans.
Here’s what some MCS supporters have done in the past:
Pamela Buchan’s mother and baby group raised £50 at their Big Blue Day; they held a raffle and had a splash and play session with their babies.
Kirkliston Primary School in Edinburgh involved the whole school in their Big Blue Day, raising over £250.
Federica Squadrilli-Carr organised a Big Blue Day with her colleagues at Barclays Global Investors, raising over £8000 including company matched giving.
For more information and ideas you can download www.mcsuk.org or request a fundraising pack from Tori Williams (fundraising@mcsuk.org).
Everyone who takes part in a fundraising event for World Ocean Day and returns their collected funds form before 17th July 2010 will be entered into a prize draw to win one of three luxury Save Our Friends dolphins (as shown in the picture).
Whatever you do, do it in blue and don’t forget that every penny really does count!
