HEAVENS ABOVE! – NORTHUMBERLAND COAST AONB STARGAZING LIVE EVENTS

An exciting opportunity to observe the night sky of the Northumberland Coast AONB in the company of “Nastronomers” from the Northumberland Astronomical Society (NASTRO).

NASTRO has planned a series of events as part of the BBC’s Stargazing Live 2012 and two of these events will be held within the Northumberland Coast AONB. They are the first steps in an initiative by the AONB Partnership to raise awareness of the night sky, and the importance of safeguarding it through reducing light pollution. There will be an illustrated talk by NASTRO’s Dr Adrian Jannetta (FRAS). The talk will “focus” on the search for planets (and extra terrestrial intelligence!) around other stars and the “Fermi Paradox” which is basically: “Where are the Aliens?”. This will be followed by outdoor observing of planetary systems, the Orion Nebula and Jupiter, its red spot and its moons (weather permitting). There is no charge. Refreshments are available. Telescopes are provided, but participants are invited to bring their own telescopes and binoculars (and warm clothes!).
