Our Coast, Our Sea - People’s Postcode Lottery raises £10 Million
18 November 2010
People’s Postcode Lottery has put the bounce back into cash-strapped charities by announcing that its players have raised a staggering £10 Million for good causes.
The news comes as budget cuts begin to bite and many traditional funding sources dry up leaving charities up and down the country feeling the pinch.
People’s Postcode Lottery Ambassador, Judie McCourt said: “I’d like to thank all the players of People’s Postcode Lottery for helping to reach this incredible milestone. Together, we have raised £10 Million for charity in just three years which is truly amazing. You are providing much needed support to so many great causes across Scotland, England and Wales.”
People’s Postcode Lottery represents a unique fundraising concept – players play with their postcodes to win cash prizes while raising money for selected charities. As a charity lottery, £2 from every monthly ticket sold goes to selected charities – and the money raised by players in England, stays in England.
One of the Lottery’s charity partners is Northumberland Wildlife Trust which manages 60 nature reserves in Northumberland, Newcastle and North Tyneside.
Mike Pratt, Chief Executive of Northumberland Wildlife Trust said: “To hear that players of the Peoples Postcode Lottery have contributed £10million to UK charities is absolutely fantastic. It’s heartening to know that players are choosing to support local charities like us and, to date, we have received almost £250,000 from the People’s Postcode Lottery which has helped us grow substantially over the past few years and has allowed us to do even more for people and wildlife.”
He continued: “Projects such as red squirrel protection, the development of a massive environmental initiative on the Northumberland Coast at Druridge Bay and projects to engage young people with nature have all been supported by the People’s Postcode Lottery. Thank you for playing, you are making a real difference.”
