Our Coast, Our Sea - Rare chance to see Lindisfarne orchid

8 July 2011

NATURAL England has organised a wildflower walk to guide visitors through some of the most sensitive sites at Lindisfarne National Nature Reserve.

The main aim of this walk, on Sunday, July 10 at 3pm, is to seek out the unique Lindisfarne Helleborine – a plant which can only be found at this site.

The Lindisfarne Helleborine, found only at Natural England’s Lindisfarne National Nature Reserve, on Holy Island, is in flower for a few short weeks.

Natural England’s Andrew Craggs, senior reserve manager, said: “Lindisfarne is a fantastic place for everyone to get up close to nature. It’s amazing to think that one of the world’s rarest orchids is to be found right here on our doorstep. Just one more reason why Lindisfarne is such a special place and needs to treated with respect.”

Visitors should meet the Natural England guide at The Snook car park at 3pm. The walk will last around two hours. To book a place phone 01289 381470
