Our Coast, Our Sea - Springwatch presenter is newest Trust Patron

22 April 2010

Chris is a writer, broadcaster, renowned naturalist and a popular host of the BBC’s much loved Springwatch and Autumnwatch programmes.

Following his graduation from Southampton University, Chris began taking still photographs and trained as a wildlife film cameraman and was twice voted Wildlife Photographer of the Year. His photography continues with exhibitions and invitations to judge prestigious competitions but the camerawork gave way to presenting.

Chris first made his reputation as co-host of the BAFTA award-winning Really Wild Show with Michaela Strachan and has been working ever since.

Before joining Kate Humble on the famous Springwatch and Autumnwatch sofa, Chris has presented lots of programmes with “wild” in the title including “Wild Watch”, “Go Wild” and “Wild Shots” on Channel 4 as well as the BBC One series “The X Creatures” and BBC Two’s “Hand on Nature” and “Nature’s Calendar” which saw him filming at both Druridge Bay in Northumberland ad Big Waters on the outskirts of Newcastle, with Kevin O’Hara, Conservation Officer with Northumberland Wildlife Trust.

Speaking of his appointment as the newest patron, Chris
said:”There is no better place than Northumberland – the County has some amazing site; needless to say I jumped at the chance to become a patron of the Trust when I was asked.”

He continued: “Northumberland Wildlife Trust is very busy and is very keen to champion wildlife for everybody through its excellent programme of walks and talks. Not enough young people are accessing nature so come along and join in.”

Speaking of his appointment as the latest Trust Patron, Mike Pratt Northumberland Wildlife Trust Chief Executive said: “We are delighted Chris has taken us on. He is already a very strong and high profile advocate of our Trust and of wildlife and conservation in Northumberland, Tyneside and Newcastle and has such a wonderful way of inspiring and communicating enthusiasm for wildlife to a very wide audience.”
