Our Coast, Our Sea - Success at UK Bus Awards for Northumberland coastal route
16 November 2009
The Coast & Castles Connection service, which provides links between Berwick, Seahouses, Alnwick, Morpeth and Newcastle, has seen big improvements over the past 18 months including new buses on the 518 route from Newcastle to Alnwick, improved services to Seahouses, Bamburgh and Berwick, new Daily & Weekly tickets in North Northumberland and new Sunday services.
The improvements have been made in partnership with the Northumberland Coast Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty (AONB) Partnership and both organisations were present at the awards ceremony at the Hilton Park Lane Hotel in London.
Mark Ellis, commercial manager for Arriva said: “Being named runners up in this award really does demonstrate the hard work that been done to improve our bus services for the people of Northumberland and visitors to the area. A major factor of its success is the people behind the scenes and our drivers on the frontline who ensure the service delivers for our customers.
“We are already looking at ways to improve our service for next year, so that we can go one better.”
Iain Robson, Recreation and Access Officer for the AONB Partnership said “It is excellent to see Arriva recognised for their commitment to improving bus services on the Northumberland Coast, we look forward to working with them over the next twelve months to further improve the Coast and Castles Connection Service”
